Early morning in Prague

We arrived in Prague - the Czech Republic Capital - a couple of days ago after a four and a half hour train ride from Berlin.
To say that Prague is a beautiful city would be an understatement - it's quite magnificent. The amount of history here in these buildings and bridges is hard to fathom. Coming as we do from New Zealand, where there is very little visible history by way of architecture, Prague takes the breath away.
We had an early start this morning as we wanted to view the Charles Bridge with as few tourists on it as possible. We'd been here the afternoon before and it was crowded with selfie stick wielding visitors from every corner of the world. This morning however, although some other keen souls with cameras had also made the pilgrimage to the bridge, it was relatively empty.
The Charles Bridge replaced the old Judith Bridge built in the 1100's, which was washed away in 1342. Charles IV presided over the construction of the new bridge in 1357, hence the name. It wasn't until the late 1600's/early 1700's that the statues of various saints were added - subsequently these original statues have been removed to the safety of the National Museum and the ones now gracing the bridge are in fact replicas.
The following photos are all of the Charles Bridge and were taking this morning (around 6.30am). I was feeling in a Black & White mood so no colour photos in this post. Further posts will follow and will have much cheerier colour photos.
Please forgive the brevity of this mornings post, but after the disaster of being locked out of our old blog, I just wanted to get something out there and published.
